Benah

In Proverbs 8:14 wisdom says, "I am understanding..."

The word understanding in this verse is BENAH. It is Strong's Concordance number H998 and means to understand or discern. It comes from the word Biyn (bene) which is Strong's Concordance number H995. It means to separate mentally or distinguish. The 2 letter root of this word means build, tent panel, intelligence. Benah has the same root word as Banah.

The Ancient Hebrew Analysis: the family working to continue the legacy by revelation.

Jeff Benner says in the Ancient Hebrew Lexicon, "the root word for benah means the continuation of the family or house. The tent was constructed of woven goat hair. Over time, the sun bleaches and weakens the goat hair necessitating their continual replacement. Each year the women make a new panel, approximately 3 feet wide and the length of the tent. The old panel is removed being replaced one small piece at a time. Therefore, the tent essentially lasts forever."

The tent was usually divided into two parts, one for the female and the other for the male. The wall makes a distinction between the two sides. Understanding is the ability to discern between two or more things.

We have to be able to distinguish between good and evil. Clean and unclean. Kodesh (Holy) and profane. Righteous and unrighteous. Sin and transgression. Sin and Iniquity. Truth and lie. Good and best. Bad and abomination. Our calling from Yahuah and our soulish desire. Spirit and flesh.

Benah means the family working to continue the legacy by revelation because this family or household has the discernment to choose the best option for the family to continue from generation to generation. This comes by the revelation given by the Ruach haKodesh.

"Wisdom rests in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known." Proverbs 14:33

Prayer Point: Pray that wisdom would rest in my heart that I may have understanding.

Reflection: Judging by my choices, what legacy am I building?
